Plaything 2019

Plaything" is a durational/interactive performance where I incarnate a paper doll -- intimacy and trust are created as participants are able to dress me in any creation of their choice with the will to leave me at their disposable. Participants are given the “freedom”, "power" and "control" to create an expression through fashion and accessories with a human body. There is no time limit to each interaction for each moment creates the intimacy of the performance. Participant(s) are given a clothing rack of a color-coordinated wardrobe, an array of make-up, accessories (shoes, hats, sunglasses, etc.) Once items were chosen the participant(s) must then physically put the materials onto the “Plaything”, who is mostly unresponsive. Participant(s) would have to manually move limbs to fit into garments, however if the “Plaything” were to lose its balance it will fall over. Once finished with their creation, the participant would be given a camera to document their look, choose to undress the “Plaything” or leave as be for the next interaction. The idea of this piece is giving life to reality of my everyday interactions as a queer individual and how I navigate scenarios of people manipulating my image/self into their mold of their reality.
